We find ourselves more and more connected to our phones these days – whether to keep in touch with friends, checking Facebook or playing games like Flappy Bird or Candy Crush Saga – we must always be aware of potential threats and scams to our happy existences. One such phone scam, which I became aware of only recently, is one called the One Ring Scam, which targets anyone in the US that owns a cell phone. And no, this has nothing to do with Tolkien’s One Ring to Rule Them all, either.
The way the scam works is this: The scam artist calls your phone and rings just once. You won’t be able to pick it up in time, but if you return the call, you will be charged $19.99 US. If you stay on the line, it’s $9 per minute on top of that.
